Homes are full of particles. Dust, germs, pollen, and more pollute the air you breathe while you’re at home. In fact, the air in your house is very likely more polluted than the air outside because of these particles. Modern homes are airtight, which means that particles in the indoor air have nowhere to go.
That’s what makes filters so important.
Filters in your HVAC system can catch these particles and prevent them from recirculating into your home, protecting both your system and your lungs.
In order for your HVAC unit to function at full capacity, it needs regular maintenance. That includes changing the filter at least four times a year (every three to four months, or more if you have pets). The furnace filter is one of the most important filters in your house, and the more often you replace it, the longer your system can last. A dirty filter that is filled with dust and grime can cause strain and result in inefficiencies or even cause damage to your HVAC system. Changing your filter will not only increase the longevity of your furnace or air conditioner, but will also save you money on your energy bills, because your system doesn’t have to work as hard with a new, clean filter. After all, who doesn’t want a little more energy efficiency?
You’re not the only one who inhabits your home: your air is full of pollutants, from germs and mold to dust and pollen. Even lint and other fibres from your clothing and bedding can get into the air. While you can’t eliminate these particles altogether, you can control them by changing your filters regularly. Since some of these particles are irritants and/or allergens, they can have an effect on your home air quality as well as your health.
